TriMet MAX Orange Line, East Side Urban Design
The TriMet MAX Orange Line project serves as a premier example of how transit infrastructure can catalyze urban regeneration. Spanning from the Willamette River through Southeast Portland to Milwaukie, the development emphasizes a transit-oriented landscape designed to function as a natural extension of the surrounding neighborhoods. Each station along the line utilizes art to give a unique identity to each stop. The 7.3-mile alignment is integrated into the existing urban fabric prioritize pedestrian safety and intuitive wayfinding. Along the route, previously vacant segments were transformed into a vibrant linear corridor featuring public art, native eco-lawns, and enhanced multi-modal paths. The light rail line elevates a functional commuter route into a sustainable civic asset.
