Hollywood Transit Center

The Hollywood Transit Center redevelopment is a transformative project that converts a decades-old transit station into a high-density, transit-oriented community hub. The project replaces aging 1980s infrastructure with the "Hollywood Hub," a landmark development that integrates affordable housing with a modernized light rail station, significantly improving the pedestrian experience in one of Portland’s most established neighborhoods. The design strategy focuses on "reclaiming the public realm," transitioning previously dark and narrow pedestrian infrastructure into a vibrant, light-filled promenade that establishes a safe and intuitive connection between the neighborhood and the MAX light rail station.

Central to the site is the "Hollywood Walk," a landscaped pedestrian and bicycle thoroughfare designed to enhance wayfinding and accessibility throughout the multi-level site. The landscape program features a series of high-performance plazas and protected social spaces programmed to serve the needs of both permanent residents and daily commuters. By incorporating native plantings, custom seating, and integrated stormwater treatment, the project balances the technical complexities of a major transit junction with a commitment to human-scale urbanism and social equity, serving as a model for modern, transit-integrated residential development.
