Mill Ends Park
Mill Ends Park is a charmingly eccentric Portland landmark that is the smallest park in the United States. The park was "founded" in 1948 by journalist Dick Fagan, who planted flowers in a neglected utility pole hole and spun whimsical columns about a resident colony of leprechauns. Officially dedicated as a city park in 1976, the newly redesigned 452-square-inch plot in the median of SW Naito Parkway serves as a beloved symbol of Portland’s quirky community spirit, frequently featuring miniature installations like tiny Ferris wheels or swimming pools. It remains a testament to how even the smallest urban space can capture a city’s imagination and foster a sense of collective identity.
