Better Naito Forever

Better Naito Forever represents a landmark transition from a temporary pilot project into a permanent, multi-modal corridor along Portland’s waterfront. By reallocating a vehicle travel lane on Naito Parkway, the project established a dedicated, two-way cycle track and expanded pedestrian space, significantly improving the connection between the urban core and the Tom McCall Waterfront Park. The design balances the requirements for transit, freight, and seasonal festival logistics with the safety of daily commuters. The project included a high level of public involvement to increase the beneficial outcomes to diverse user groups. Key features include high-visibility, durable materials and integrated signalization systems designed to minimize conflict at intersections.
