Mill Park

The Mill Park project illustrates how community-driven design can transform underutilized space into a vital neighborhood asset. Located in a diverse area of East Portland, the 6.2-acre development transitioned a simple grassy field into a high-energy community centerpiece focused on equity and social connection. The design is anchored by a "Paseo" concept, a central promenade that establishes an intuitive connection between the adjacent school and the surrounding neighborhood. This layout strategically organizes active zones, such as the splash pad, picnicking space, playground, and a community garden. A walking loop at the perimeter of the park offers more tranquil spaces. The project worked with a local artist who lived in the community to create a meaningful art piece in the park that represented the diverse voices, textures, and identities in this richly diverse neighborhood.
