Darlene Hooley Pedestrian Bridge
The Darlene Hooley Pedestrian Bridge provides a safe route from the high-density South Waterfront district to the historic Lair Hill neighborhood, that was historically disconnected by the 14 lanes of traffic below. A new staircase and elevator provide vertical access to the bridge above. The hillside adjacent to the staircase provides both a natural beauty of plantings and weathering steel weirs as well as a tiered stormwater management system. The elevator building includes a super-graphic as an architectural art piece. The project stands as a landmark of regional connectivity, demonstrating the capacity for strategic design to overcome significant infrastructural barriers.
